For a backyard sauna in Ireland (and generally for Baltresto saunas), planning permission may or may not be required, depending on a few factors:
When Planning Permission is Not Usually Needed
The sauna is freestanding in your garden and not permanently attached to the house.
The sauna is below 25 m² in footprint (typical backyard sauna is much smaller).
The sauna does not exceed 4 m in height.
It is not built in a protected structure or conservation area.
When Planning Permission Might Be Required
If you are installing a larger sauna (>25 m² or taller than 4 m).
If your property is in a special zoning area, near a protected building, or within a conservation area.
If the sauna will be attached to your house or involves electrical/gas connections that require building compliance.
Baltresto’s Advice
Baltresto saunas are usually small, freestanding barrel or cube saunas, which typically don’t require planning permission in most private gardens. They recommend:
Checking with your local planning office before installation.
Ensuring proper foundation, access, and chimney clearance.
Delivery Time
Production Time: Approximately 7–12 weeks, depending on the specific sauna model and any customizations.
Shipping: After production, delivery to Ireland is arranged via freight carriers. While exact delivery times can vary, it's advisable to plan for an additional 1–2 weeks for shipping.
Installation & Assembly
Self-Assembly: Baltresto typically provides saunas as flat-pack kits with detailed assembly instructions. Many customers assemble the sauna themselves, often with the assistance of a second person.
Installation Time: For a two-person team, assembly can take 1–2 days, depending on the sauna model and experience.
Roof Installation: For fully assembled saunas, the roof is not installed due to transportation constraints. Customers are required to install the roof themselves upon delivery.
Important Considerations
Warranty Conditions: To maintain the warranty, it's crucial to assemble and install the sauna within two weeks of delivery.
Preparation: Ensure you have a level foundation and adequate space for the sauna's dimensions.
